Like most parents, Kachira and Amanda were excited to welcome the joy of twins, Torben and Loxley. Shortly after they received their varicella vaccination, also known as the chicken pox vaccine, they were sadly admitted to the hospital.

After a stay at Barbara Bush in Portland and then Boston Children's, the doctors found that the twins had a rare immunodeficiency called NIC.

According to Mom, their immune systems could not learn to fight viruses. Both boys fought for their lives before eventually losing those battles at 17 and 18 months old.

In my opinion, to lose one child is totally unnatural. To lose two? Unlivable. Kachira has two other children, and told me that she is here today trying to raise awareness and support because of her other children.

Kachira wants you to know that if this condition was discovered at birth, her children could have been saved. Therefore, she wants to raise awareness about this rare immunodeficiency.

Kachira is now asking for help, understandably. I can't even begin to imagine what the hospital bills looked like, since the twins were admitted for most of their young lives. Financial support is also needed for the insurmountable costs of this terrible situation.

This benefit held for these two lovely babies will take place at Monmouth Fish & Game on 347 US RT 202 in Monmouth, Maine. The event will take place Saturday, July 27, from 11:00am-3:00pm.

If you can't make the event and would like to consider donating, they do have a GoFundMe set up here.

The benefit will hold raffles, 50/50, and lots of hamburgers and hot dogs. Many local businesses have also donated prizes, so if you have a business and would like to get involved, you can.
