Police are investigating the discovery of a corpse that was found inside Maine's Acadia National Park on Monday afternoon.

According to an article published by WGME 13, police were notified of a body found on the Schoodic Loop at Acadia National Park just after four in the afternoon on Monday. Police say that the man's body was found by a fellow hiker walking through the area.

At this time an investigation is underway into what led to the death in the first place. Police have not yet released a name as they work to identify the remains and subsequently notify next of kin.

Additionally, there is no information on the circumstances surrounding the death such as the cause or manner. As the investigation into Monday's discovery continues, we expect that more detailed information will be forthcoming from the Maine State Police and National Park Service in the coming days.

According to the National Park Service,

The Schoodic Peninsula is the sole section of Acadia National Park located on the mainland. Known for its rugged granite cliffs shaped by powerful storm surges and tidal forces, it offers dramatic coastal scenery that rivals that of Mount Desert Island. However, Schoodic remains far quieter and more remote.

The National Park Service maintains it as a lightly developed, low-traffic destination, preserving its tranquil character. It’s roughly a one-hour drive from the Hulls Cove Visitor Center on Mount Desert Island.

This is a developing story that we will keep updated as more information is made available to us.
