It was a sad ending to a search for a missing snowmobiler this week in Rangeley, Maine.

According to WGME 13, Maine Game Wardens, along with other people and agencies, had been attempting to locate a snowmobiler that hadn't been seen since Saturday night.

The Warden Service reports that Stephen J. Rogers, 43 of Milford, Connecticut, had been out riding on a loaner sled on Saturday night as his sled was in for service at Oquossic Marine.

However, he wasn't reported missing until Tuesday when Rogers failed to return the loaner sled and pick his up. Wardens began their search in the area of Rangeley Lake after other people had reported broken snowmobile parts were found near the shoreline.

WGME reports that Wardens found the sled on its side in a cluster of trees. Officials say that speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash that caused Rogers to end up crashing into trees along the Rangeley Lake shoreline.

This is a developing story and we will continue to keep it updated as more information becomes available to us either by the Maine Warden Service or WGME 13.

Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Stephen J. Rogers during this difficult time.

As always, the Maine Warden Service reminds all riders to never, under any circumstances, mix alcohol and riding.
