Car Crashes into Small Maine Inn on Friday Morning, Guests Evacuated
One person has been injured after a car crashed into an Inn in Westbrook just after 3am Friday morning.
According to WGME 13, the crash happened just off of the rotary near the intersection of Warren Avenue and Cumberland Street. The small car, according to the photos at the scene, appears to have driven completely off the road and into the front porch of the Westbrook Inn.
The driver was injured and taken to the hospital with what are being called non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, 20 Inn guests and staff members were evacuated from the building as a temporary precaution while crews cleared the scene, WGME reports.
Westbrook Fire Chief, Steve Sloan, told WGME 13, "That deck is pretty unstable and there are people on the second and third floors. We've contacted the Red Cross and we're opening up a shelter at our community center so we can move the people out of this building."
