
Maine State Police Charge Carrabassett Valley Man in Deadly Shooting
A Carrabassett Valley man has been arrested and charged with murder following a shooting that left a young woman from Connecticut dead.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, the Franklin County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, reporting that 23-year-old Makayla Rose Desantis of Colchester, Connecticut had been shot.
First responders arrived on scene and transported Desantis to MaineHealth Franklin Hospital in Farmington. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she ultimately died.
Investigators say Desantis was injured at a residence located on Left Bank in Carrabassett Valley.
Following an investigation, Maine State Police arrested 24-year-old Austin Doucette of Carrabassett Valley on the evening of March 9. Doucette has been charged with the murder of Desantis.
The case is being investigated by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Carrabassett Valley Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.
