Check Out Vassalboro’s Gorgeous & Brand New Pumper Firetruck!
One of the most exciting things that can happen to any small town in Maine, aside from getting a new takeout restaurant, is taking delivery of a brand-spanking new firetruck.
According to a post from the Vassalboro Fire Department Facebook page, the department took delivery Wednesday afternoon of their brand new Freightliner pumper truck. The vote to purchase the new truck was approved by residents back in June of 2020.
The new pumped truck has a water tank capacity of 1,000 gallons and is capable of pumping out an incredible 1,500 gallons of water per minute. The truck is going to be replacing an older truck that had been donated to the department about 10 years ago. That truck was a 1981 cabover that was brought up from New York.
Chief Thompson and the Vassalboro Fire crew will be spending time familiarizing themselves with the new truck while simultaneously getting driving hours in on the rig, which is required before the truck can officially be placed in service.
