February is winding down and before it ends with it withering away, I wanted to bring up this being ‘National Canned Food Month’

I for one, unless it is soup like Progresso or Campbell’s Chunky, I'm not the biggest fan of canned anything. I'm not even crazy about canned laughter. Canned soda and beer are alright, but neither are what we’ll call food.

I don’t like canned vegetables; I find they taste mushy, sweet and stale. I much prefer my veggies frozen over canned.

I will only eat canned soups, but I don’t mind tuna out of a can or canned fruit like fruit cocktail and mandarin oranges but for the most part prefer foods frozen fresh or even jarred over canned. Pasta sauce is definitely something I prefer in a jar over a can but I’ll deal with sauce in a can if that’s what is on sale.

Canned foods are good to have on hand as you never know when the power will go out. Usually canned foods are edible even if not warmed up.

Another thing I remember about canned foods are the mystery cans. They’d be at the grocery store in a bin at a super low price of like 10 cents and the price was hand written in sharpie on the can because no one knew what was in the can.

Now grocery stores can probably tell what’s in an unwrapped can because of the code on the top.

Who remembers Letterman giving away canned hams? How about Spam? Ever watch Monty Python and Weird Al and their takes on Spam. Apparently Spam is just basically pork and ham with salt, potato starch and sugar. Better that I thought.
