This Festival Serves Up The Best Coffee You’ll Ever Have in Maine
Each year my family and I get ready to head to the coveted Greek Festival at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on 155 Hogan Road in Lewiston.
It's the time of year that we remind ourselves where we come from and also share that with our children.
It's an exciting time of year where the public is welcome to gather outside the church to experience the passionate culture of Greece.
This year, I brought my wife, son, mother and brother.

We usually grab some baklava, browse the Greek jewelry, and catch up with friends. But there’s one thing my mother looks forward to every year: the Greek coffee.
Trust me, this is the strongest, best-tasting coffee you’ll ever have. Our cup was made by Ray Goulet, who learned the secret recipe from his Yia Yia and has perfected it ever since!
While you wait for Ray to make the best coffee you've ever had, you get to pick out a demitasse cup which is a small coffee cup that is specifically used to serve Greek coffee. There’s a gorgeous variety to choose from, each one adding to the beauty of the Greek experience!
Family is central to Greek culture, and so is passing down traditions. When I was younger, I’d watch my YiaYia teach my mom how to perfect Kourabiedes, those delicious Greek cookies. It was magical to see her pass down something so special. Now, my mom has taught me how to make them and share them with others. And I will do the same with my son. That is the true essence of being Greek.
If you have the chance to visit the Greek Festival in Lewiston, it takes place every year in September.
The moment you walk through the tents you are transformed to Greece, by smell, feel, and taste.
The Greek coffee should come with a warning label because if you’re not a hardcore coffee drinker, you might not be able to handle it! It’s so strong, you’ll be yelling "OPA!" all day and night long!
My mom tried to swipe the recipe again this year but came up empty-handed, so instead, she settled for drinking three cups.
