Hello Clarice...

Today, as I write this article, I have to say, that I've NEVER been more taken aback by a piece of writing.

The content I'm exploring has left me utterly astonished and surprised, and I can't wait to share my thoughts on this unexpected and DISGUSTING revelation.

I know what you're thinking.."WHY IS THIS QUESTION BEING ASKED!!"

Are you still listening Clarice?

The reason I ask is because I found out some pretty interesting information on this subject, and wouldn't be doing my duty if I didn't share it with you!

What is Cannibalism?

I'll make this brief, because most of us are aware of this ghoulish and disgusting word. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, cannibalism is the practice of eating one's flesh.

A lot of us learned about this from the famous Hannibal Lecter movies.

Is Cannibalism Illegal in Maine?

You would automatically assume that this cold-blooded practice would be extremely illegal and outlawed, but surprisingly, it is not.

Cannibalism is not explicitly illegal in Maine. Say what?!

So apparently, it is not directly illegal.

According to Quora,

Cannibalism is not specifically, by statutory law, illegal in any of the 50 States, nor on the Federal level. However, all States and the Federal government have statutory laws that at least indirectly make it unlawful to obtain human body parts, regardless of the circumstances.

So, there it is folks, there is no direct statute against cannibalism.

HOWEVER:

First off, murder is illegal, so if you're thinking of turning your neighbor into a potluck, don't.

Laws can be a little sneaky, so sometimes you have to peel back the layers and find out what's really going on, because in my mind, cannibalism can't be without consequence, right?

WRONG. I literally could not find any concrete law stating that this is illegal in Maine. If you can help, please do.

Furthermore, according to Quora, if the body is not obtained through murder or suicide, there would not be a legal consequence. Each state has their own law against this.

As I said before, it was very tough for me to find anything for Maine, but what I researched showed me that in all but one state, Idaho, you can theoretically eat human blood or flesh without legal consequence. Idaho has a specific law against it.

I believe that this is mostly against how you would obtain a body in the first place.

Just a legal reminder:

Murder is illegal. Hurting people is illegal. Don't do it.
