For years, there were many great businesses lining Bangor Mall Boulevard in Bangor, Maine.

Yes, there was the mall itself, but there were also coffee shops, Wendy's, Arby's, electronics stores, and more.  One of the more notable businesses along that stretch of road was Books-A-Million.  The store, also known simple as BAM, sold books, CDs, DVDs, Blue-Rays, and more.  In 2024, after being on Bangor Mall Boulevard for a number of years, the store moved to a new location on Stillwater Avenue.

Since that move, the building that house BAM has remained vacant.

It looks like that is about to change.

According to an article on the WABI website, the massive building will soon have a new use.

The realtor handling the sale says they can’t share many details because of contractual restrictions. What they could confirm is that the property was sold at auction.

They also say the high bidder is local and already has plans for what comes next.

According to the Tranzon website, the property, which is located at 116 Bangor Mall Boulevard and was built in 1996, is a freestanding big box building with just under 26,000 square feet spread across two full working floors, connected by an elevator and built around an open atrium.  It was originally designed for destination-style retail and even includes a café or kitchen area, high ceilings, and a layout that can handle everything from retail and showrooms to fitness, medical, education, or entertainment uses, depending on zoning.  The lot is nearly three acres with about 156 parking spaces, easy access in and out, and strong visibility from I-95, Stillwater Avenue, and Hogan Road.

We are anxious to see what the old BAM will become next.

We wish the new owners all the best!
