⚠ While many Maine hospitals are scaling back their services, Reddington Fairview General Hospital is expanding

⚠ The hospital has been given approval to construct a 24,000-square-foot office building

Over the last few years, we have seen many of our Maine hospitals go through tough times.

In some cases, the hospitals needed to scale back on the services that they offered.  In other cases, the hospitals were forced to close.  These issues were caused by several issues, including a lack of available staff and an increase in the cost of doing business.

On a more positive note, one Central Maine hospital is doing well enough to expand.

According to an article in the KJ, Skowhegan's Reddington Fairview General Hospital just got approval for the construction of a 24,000-square-foot medical office building and two additional parking areas.

The article explains that, on Tuesday night, the Skowhegan Planning Board unanimously approved the project, which had been brought before the board in June of 2024.

The new office building will be an expansion to the current hospital building.  Additionally, the hospital plans to demolish the family medicine building at the corner of Jones Street and Fairview Avenue in order to make room for the new parking spaces.  There is also a plan to expand a current parking lot.  When the work is completed, the hospital should have an additional 120 spaces.

Work on the medical office building, which is expected to cost about $18 million, will start in April.  The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2027.

While Reddington Fairview General Hospital has always been important to the population of Central Maine, it has recently become even more important to expectant mothers.  In January, it was announced that Northern Light Inland Hospital would no longer be offering birthing services.  Reddington Fairview is one of the closest hospitals to Waterville that does still have birthing services.
