Sheriff’s Department Investigates Crash Involving Bangor Police Officer
The Penobscot County Sheriff's Department is looking into the circumstances surrounding a crash in Bangor Monday afternoon.
According to Bangor PD's Public Information Officer, Jason McAmbley, the incident occurred where Ohio Street and Finson Rd. come together.
McAmbley says that the Bangor Police Officer, who was traveling in one direction, got a call that another member of the PD needed help in the opposite direction. As the cop made a U-turn in the middle of the road, things went wrong.
"The officer failed to see the oncoming vehicle and struck the vehicle, causing it to roll over twice...The officer immediately radioed for an ambulance and police assistance and went to the other vehicle to asses the occupants for injuries. A child in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries; the male driver did not require hospital treatment. "
A reconstruction of the event is being put together, as is an investigation, by the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.
The officer involved in the crash was uninjured, authorities say.
