Portland Maine’s Hadlock Field Has A New Name

Hadlock Field has a new name thanks to a new partnership.

WMTW reported on the multiyear naming rights partnership between the Portland Sea Dogs and Delta Dental. So the ballpark will now be known as Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field. The new name will be on the building and will be all over inside Hadlock on Park Avenue in Portland, Maine.

There's a new logo for the park with the Delta Dental Park name and the lighthouse that comes up from the center field fence when a Sea Dogs player hits a home run and when the Sea Dogs win.

Where does the name Hadlock Field come from in Portland, Maine?

According to WMTW, Hadlock Field opened in 1994 and was named after Edson Hadlock Jr. He was a baseball coach and physics teacher at Portland High School. The Portland High School Bulldogs and the Deering High Rams baseball teams play games there.

'I'm always gonna call it Hadlock Field!'

This is a common comment when the switch was announced. I get it. Change is hard. But as much as we love our Portland Sea Dogs, it's a business. It's great that a business like Delta Dental is willing to pay to have its name associated with something Mainers love. It's good business. So, you can resist calling it the Delta Dental Park, but that's the new name. Just like it's the Cross Insurance Arena. If it was YOUR business that bought it - wouldn't you want people to call it that?

The Sea Dogs' 2025 home opener at Delta Dental Park is on April 8 and tickets go on sale on Saturday, November 2. And yes, Delta Dental will keep the 'Brush and Floss Challenge' with the Sea Dogs. They give kids tickets to a Sea Dog game for brushing and flossing their teeth regularly.
