Rain and winds wreak havoc throughout Maine.

When you hear about downed trees, you think of more rural places with lots of trees, but even downtown Portland saw trees down. Just parked on a city street near Monument Square, this car saw the power of Mother Nature.

This is right where I work, and I had to brace myself a couple of times against a concrete barrier just while walking to my car. I have never experienced wind like that before, and I've worked in downtown Portland for 25 years! I'm sure Public Works isn't used to getting this call either!

It's not like trees are breaking. They are being pulled out of the ground by their roots. The ground is so saturated and the winds so strong, the trees are just pushed over. One car in Oakland, Maine, was caught on camera just missing a tree coming down!

There are so many reports of trees down that police are urging people to stay put, because some roads are impassible. Between the flooding, trees down, and no power, this storm is worse than a snowy nor'easter! At one point, half of all CMP customers had no power. I'm currently at work, where there is power.

Please be careful. A falling tree killed a man in Windham as he was clearing a tree from his roof. A second piece fell, and he did not survive. This is just a terrible way to spend the last week before Christmas. Please be careful everyone.
