Maine Averaged 21 Deer Crashes Per Day in 2025
Most drivers in Maine will tell you that there is enough to worry about when behind the wheel without adding wildlife into the mix.
From excessive speeders to distracted drivers and beyond, keeping an eye out for a moose or a deer often times seems like an afterthought.
But according to driving data released by AAA for 2025, thinking about collisions with deer specifically shouldn't be an afterthought at all because it's happened about once-per-hour every single day last year.
There Were 7,672 Deer involved Vehicle Crashes in Maine For 2025
Over the last several years, there have been more than 32,000 vehicle accidents in Maine that have involved deer. In 2025 alone, there were 7,672 deer crashes averaging out to more than 21 per day.

Maine ranks number 9 in the nation in odds of having a deer-related vehicle crash and those odds are set to increase over the next few months.
That's because deer mating season has arrived in Maine and during the peak of rutting season in November, deer crashes around the state typically spike. Roughly 20% of the deer crashes in 2025 took place in November.
The Cost From Deer-Related Crashes in Maine Can Be Expensive
While frightening, deer crashes in Maine rarely prove to be fatal for drivers. What they can be is incredibly expensive.
Depending on the severity of the impact, repair costs on vehicles average anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000 per accident.
Injuries and damage costs rise when drivers attempt to swerve and avoid a deer, often causing motorists to hit guardrails, trees or other vehicles.
Deer activity during mating season is most prominent in the early morning hours and around the evening commute.
