China Lake may not be the most beautiful lake to boat. Nor is it my favorite. But its my home lake and I hold it near and dear to my heart. That's why I chose this lake for my first boat ride of the year. That and its wicked close to my house...

I can and have launched this fiberglass behemoth by myself on many occasions but, on this glorius day, a man (and his son or grandson) was at the dock and was very anxious to help me. I never know how to react. I absolutely welcomed the assistance but didn't know if should offer him and the boy a ride...an ice cream...a swig of my warm Dr. Pepper....so I just said thanks and proceeded across the lake.

Oh, as I was backing away from the dock a guy and two young women were coming in. "Alone?" one of the young women asked. I am, I said. Then she told the guy she wanted to go for a ride with me. When she asked, I heard her call him 'babe,' so I knew THAT wasn't going to happen.

So I'm on the lake by myself...just me and my cell phone...and I get a great idea to do a documentary on Loons. I present it to you, unedited and a bit rough. Enjoy and learn from the loon master.
