It's one of our favorite annual events of the year and it's coming right up. It's time for the Kennebec Valley YMCA's Rise N' Shine 5K Road Race and you need to get signed up right now. Also, set your alarm the day of because the race kicks off directly at sunrise.

Because of the pandemic this year runners have multiple options with how they would like to participate. You can either come down to the Y and race in person, or you can 'run your way' and track your run virtually this year. However, no matter how you plan to run the proceeds still benefit the same awesome cause.

All monies raised go to benefit the annual Strong Kids campaign which seeks to give kids in Central Maine communities scholarships to things like swim lessons, Camp KV and other youth programs that happen throughout the year. It's a really great way to help kids in our area get opportunities to attend programs that they otherwise may never have been able to afford.

If you're looking to get signed up for the race, you should do it prior to race day to save a little money. Pre-race-day registrations are currently $32 but will go up to $37 the day of the race. Registrations the day of the race will begin at 5 AM in the KVYMCA gym in Augusta. Opening remarks will begin promptly at 6:15 and the race begins right at sunrise at 6:30.
