Maine Celtics Going Green to Feed Maine Kids
I love a story that has to do with giving back, and this story is a good one. The Maine Celtics, Maine's basketball team that used to be the Maine Red Claws, with TD Bank, donated plants to the Full Plates Full Potential and Cultivating Community.
Full Plates Full Potential is a community partnership in Maine working to end childhood hunger in Maine. Cultivating Community is a Portland-based group with volunteer gardens in the Portland area to provide healthy, fresh foods to Portland residents.
That was one of the side effects of the pandemic; the food insecurity issues of Mainers and especially our young Mainers have been seen. Healthy foods are so vital to children for growing up healthy, doing well in school, and feeling secure.
The Maine Celtics had a going green program where they planted seeds that were grown into seedlings and donated to the gardens. The Maine Celtics and the TD Bank Community Crew will be back later in the growing season to host a volunteer day.
