Maine DEA Agents Seize 1/2 Pound Of Heroin
According to Stephen McCausland, Maine Public Safety spokesman, Maine DEA agents have seized a half pound of heroin. The seizure and arrest were made following a several month long investigation.
After being found in possession of the drugs, 30 year old Shailene Chapman, of Newburgh, was arrested near Newport on the I-95 at about 5 PM yesterday (Thursday 9/7).
According to agents, the drugs were worth about $42,000 and were bound for Penobscot and Hancock counties.
Chapman had been the focus of a several month long investigation for her suspected role in the import (from other states) of heroin for sale in several Maine counties. Law enforcement learned that Chapman would be returning to Maine, from New York, in a rented SUV. With a search warrant, MDEA agents, Maine State Police, and Penobscot County Sheriff's deputies, stopped Chapman. A drug sniffing was able to locate the heroin.
Chapman was charged with Class “A” Aggravated Trafficking is Schedule W Drugs (heroin). This charge was aggravated due to the quantity of heroin seized.
She is being held at the Penobscot County Jail. Bail has been set at $10,000 cash. It is expected that she will make an initial appearance later today in a Bangor courtroom.
