Big Changes Coming to Lowe’s Stores in Maine Following Settlement With Prosecutors
When it comes to corporate-owned home improvement stores in Maine, there are two big ones that everyone is familiar with.
Of course, those two are Home Depot and Lowe's.
And now, thanks in part to a settlement, one of those retail giants is set to make some pretty big changes.
According to MaineBiz.Biz, Lowe's has agreed to improve accessibility at its Maine stores as part of a settlement over alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The case originated from a complaint by a customer with mobility issues, alleging that a Lowe’s store in Brewer failed to provide accessible parking close to the entrance, the publication said.
After an investigation, prosecutors say they found that Lowe’s stores in Brewer, Brunswick, Portland, and Windham, Maine, all appeared to lack what they say is adequate accessible parking, which in turn violates ADA rules that prohibit discrimination against folks with disabilities.
MaineBiz went on to say that the company will continue to update various Maine stores to ensure compliance with ADA standards, including changes to entrances, parking, and restroom facilities. This agreement is part of an effort to make their locations more accessible for customers with disabilities.
