Maine Man Arrested After Alleged Violent Dispute Over Phone Charger
A Sanford man is now facing some serious charges after what police are calling an aggravated assault that reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over something as simple as a phone charger.
According to law enforcement officials, the incident happened Monday night on North Avenue in Sanford. That is where officers responded to a report of a disturbance allegedly involving 23-year-old Josiah Madera.
According to WGME 13, when police arrived, they learned that Madera had allegedly assaulted another individual following a dispute about whether or not he had permission to charge his phone on the property.
Police say the situation quickly escalated from a verbal disagreement into a physical altercation, leaving the victim with injuries serious enough to require medical attention. The injured individual was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been publicly released, but they were considered significant enough to involve hospital care, the news station reported.
Following the incident, officers arrested Madera and brought him to the York County Jail. He is now facing aggravated assault charges, and his bail has been set at fifteen thousand dollars.
WGME went on to explain that authorities have not said whether the two individuals knew each other or what may have caused the disagreement to spiral so dramatically. Regardless, the incident serves as a reminder of how quickly things can escalate, even over the smallest misunderstandings.
So, the next time your phone is running low on battery, it might be best to ask nicely — and maybe keep that portable charger handy.
