Follow Along Here With Friday Power Outages Across Maine
It has been a pretty wild winter here in Maine and across the region in terms of the weather we have had. If the last several years would have been an indicator as to how this winter was going to go, none of us would have expected people to have been consistently snowmobiling in Central Maine this year.
Typically, at least in recent history, Central Maine has had such a lack of snow that most enthusiasts of winter sports had to travel north or west to find somewhere to enjoy the white stuff.
Well, thanks to Mother Nature, that hasn't been the case this year. We have had plenty of local clubs out grooming trails right here in this area. And while some people may have been a little upset about the number of back to back snow storms this year, a majority of people who own snow shoes and snowmobiles were pretty darn happy.
Now that we are getting closer to spring, the weather in Maine is beginning to change. For example, we have had multiple rain storms in the last week and, even though there was a little bit of snow last night, the precip has tapered off and made way for a very windy Friday.
So windy in fact, that Maine meteorologists are calling for 'scattered' power outages throughout the day. According to WGME 13, wind gusts across Maine will exceed 40 miles per hour on Friday with some regions of the state getting closer to the 50 mph mark.
While those wind speeds aren't the highest we've ever seen, the saturating rains and thawing temps we've seen this week will make it easier and more likely for trees to come down on power lines.
We've included a couple of quick links so you can stay on top of power outages and estimated restoration times across the state from both Central Maine Power and Versant Power.
