Tragedy struck Maine on Tuesday, April 18, when four people were found dead in Bowdoin and later three people were shot on I-295 near Yarmouth.

Maine State Police held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, April 19, to provide an update on what happened and fill in some blanks regarding the horrific situation.

Here are some of the key takeaways.

Maine Murder Suspect Joseph Eaton

Police revealed the other day that they had arrested 34-year-old Joseph Eaton of Bowdoin but elaborated on Wednesday that he was captured in a wooded area near Exit 15 southbound around 10:50 a.m. Tuesday.

While police said he is being charged with four counts of murder and being held without bail, they noted that he also confessed to the four murders in Bowdoin. He also allegedly said that he believed the vehicles he shot on I-295 were police vehicles following him.

Charges in connection with the I-295 are pending at this time.

Police also said that Eaton was released from Windham Correctional Facility only a few days before the murders, on April 14, after serving a sentence for aggravated assault. His mother, Cynthia Eaton, "met him at the prison and brought him to Bowdoin to stay with family friends Patricia and Robert Eger," according to police.
