Maine is full of thousands of natural wonders that people from all over the world love to explore. Those wonders, however, can sometimes be dangerous.

According to WGME 13, a 17-year-old Maine girl was seriously injured over the weekend when she fell from a waterfall.

The news station reports that the teenage girl was on an adventure with her family when she apparently climbed up to a level of about 40 feet on the righthand side of Maine's Angel Falls.

While she was climbing, Maine Game Wardens say that a large rock came loose from the side causing the girl to fall.

The 40 foot fall caused the 17[year-old to sustain serious facial injuries, bruises and what is being called 'head trauma' by the Lewiston Sun Journal.

Rescue crews needed to hike in about half a mile from the road to the remote location of Angel Falls. WGME says it then took about two hours for rescuers to carry the girl to the base of the falls and then out to a parking lot where they were able to get her aboard a LifeFlight helicopter. She was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Fortunately, WGME reports that the young girl was released from Maine Medical Center on Sunday.
