Summer in Maine means the likelihood of thunderstorms, and sometimes the threat can be more severe than others.

It kind of feels like during the summer months in Maine there are a select bunch of us that are always secretly wishing for thunderstorms to pop up the way that others are secretly hoping for monster snow storms.

If you feel like you've been missing out on an adequate number of thunderstorms this summer season here in the Pine Tree State, worry not because it looks like today might make up for it.

According to a weather blog published by WGME 13, the cool and cloudy weather continues during the day on Tuesday, though there is an increased risk of strong storms pretty much all day long.

Timing for the today's storms looks to be between 3-9pm, according to WGME. The storms look to be most likely the further west you travel in the state and out towards the mountains, however central and eastern Maine still pose a threat of severe weather, too.

WGME goes on to report that Tuesday's storm potential brings with it a chance of heavy rains, strong gusting winds and possible small hail.

After the next couple of relatively 'cool' summer days the heat returns with a vengeance just in time for the first weekend of August.

As we head into the end of the week, temperatures will spike back up into the upper 80s on Thursday. Friday will be the warmest day of the weekend by far with Central Maine temps hovering right around 90 degrees.

The weekend wraps up Saturday and Sunday with temps into the upper 80s and an ample amount of sunshine with a chance for afternoon showers on Sunday.
