Maine Residents Can Wrestle Each Other in a Pool Filled With Mashed Potatoes
Have you been thinking that life has been a little too boring lately? That there just hasn't been enough going on to keep you fulfilled? Like you're really longing for the feeling of freshly mashed potatoes between your toes? Worry not, friends, we got you.
For starters, how in the hell have I lived in Maine for 36 (and three quarters) years and never knew there was an actual mashed potato wrestling event? I feel like I would have dominated back in my youth.
I was scrolling Facebook earlier today when I came across a photo that seemed a little peculiar. I had already scrolled by when my brain did that whole 'wait a minute, what was that?' thing.
So obviously I scrolled back up and what to my wondering eyes did appear, but two grown adults wrestling in a pool of Maine-made mashed potatoes. Yes, it's actually a thing.
The Maine Potato Blossom Festival (yes, also a thing), takes place each year in the town of Fort Fairfield, Maine. It is about a 3 (or slightly longer) hour drive from almost anywhere in Central Maine.
The festival, according to their Facebook page, has dozens of different events that include a classic car show, BBQ cook-off, Horseshoe tournament, golf scramble, blacksmith demonstrations and more.
However, the event that everyone seems to be talking the most about is the mashed potato wrestling. The event will happen this Thursday, July, 18, on Main Street in Fort Fairfield. The event is 5:30-8 p.m. and registration happens on-site before the event.
Also, I should say I was dying to put 563,892 potato puns in this little story, but I chose to spare you. You're welcome.
Our town manager and Fire Chief have already signed up for the challenge. Its going to be loads of fun! We want to thank the volunteers and our sponsor Machias Savings Bank and Pineland Potato Co. for the mixture for the ring. They will be passing the "boot" around for donations.
