The First Hot Weekend in Maine Meant Lake Days, Lawn Work, and Plenty of Sunburns
Maine showed off this weekend, and Mainers answered the call. The first real hot weekend of the year always feels like an unofficial holiday around here.
Lawnmowers hummed across Maine neighborhoods while crowds packed Old Orchard Beach for the first hot weekend of the season. Camps reopened, docks went in, boats hit the water, and families stayed outside by the lake long after sunset. After months of cold weather and gray skies, nobody wanted to waste a second indoors.
Personally, I fully embraced it, maybe a little too much. I spent so much time outside this weekend that I’m now dealing with one of the worst sunburns I’ve had in a minute. My sunglasses left perfect tan lines, and at this point I look less like a person and more like a raccoon that spent the weekend at the lake.
But honestly, that’s how you know it was a successful first summer weekend in Maine. If you’re coming into Monday without at least a little sunburn, dirt on your shoes, or exhaustion from being outside all day, you probably did it right.
