Back in November you likely remember that we shared a story with you about an Augusta, Maine man that stole and took off in an Augusta, Maine Police Department cruiser.

According to WGME 13, it all started when an Augusta Police cruiser was left running outside of the police station with the doors unlocked. It was at that time that Kyle King, of Augusta, allegedly walked up and entered the police car.

Police immediately realized the car had been stolen and began their search. Eventually, officers found the stolen police car at the Augusta Shaw's parking lot off of Western Avenue.

Kyle King, 27 years old, had also allegedly entered the store prior to police arriving on the scene and had been bothering a family of shoppers that were inside, including two small children.

Fast forward to April of 2023, and WGME is reporting that King will not be standing trial for his alleged crimes due to reasons of mental incompetence. The news station is reporting that King has undergone an evaluation by a mental health professional and was found to be too incompetent to assist in his own defense, the news station reported.

Additionally, WGME 13 is reporting that the Augusta Police Department began an internal investigation after the theft of the cruiser in November to ensure that this type of situation doesn't happen again in the future.

This is still a developing story and we will continue to keep it updated as more information becomes available to us either from the Augusta Police Department or our news sources at WGME 13.
