Multiple Dogs Killed in Central Maine Apartment Fire Friday
According to the Kennebec Journal, two dogs were killed during a Friday morning fire in Fairfield, Maine.
The fire broke out just after 9 am on Friday at American Lodge apartments at 31 Main Street. Crews responded to the fire after callers reported that there could be people trapped inside the one-bedroom unit.
Fortunately, as the KJ later reported, that was not the case. Though no people were home during the fire, their two dogs were. Sadly, those dogs passed away due to smoke inhalation during the fire.
Officials say the fire could have been much worse as the building it broke out in contains 12 apartment units, though the fire was contained to the kitchen of a single one-bedroom unit. The fire, which started in the kitchen, was deemed to have been electrical in nature.
Though significant fire damage was mitigated by fire fighters, the smoke damage was said to be extensive. The pair that live in the affected unit returned home shortly after and were notified that their dogs were deceased.
Crews from the Clinton, Fairfield, Skowhegan, Waterville and Winslow Fire Departments responded to the fire. Oakland firefighters stood by at the Fairfield station during the incident.
