Classes at T.C. Hamlin School in Randolph were canceled for the day when, just after 7 this morning, a standoff began on Second Street, just 100 yards away.

A man inside a home threatened to use a shotgun if deputies entered. He told his wife he wanted to commit suicide by cop, according to Kennebec CountyChief Deputy, Ryan Reardon.

After the man barricaded himself into a bedroom, the woman and two young children left the residence.

The man was later taken into custody without incident. He was found to have a knife but police found no shotgun. Police took him to Maine General for an evaluation.
