Sadly, these days you really cannot be too careful when it comes to the safety of your family.

According to WGME, police in Yarmouth are warning Mainers about a concerning incident that happened earlier this week.

At around 3:30 PM on Tuesday (March 23rd), an older model Toyota sedan approached both a woman and a child.  During the encounter, which took place on Juniper Drive, the driver asked them if they "wanted to go for a ride".

The driver, described as an older white male, first asked the woman how old she was and if she wanted to go for a ride.  After she told him she did not, the driver moved on to ask a child the same question.  Already having dealt with the man, the woman intervened in the encounter and sent the child home.

The vehicle then left the area, heading in the direction of Freeport.

The vehicle is described as being an older, gold colored, Toyota sedan.  The vehicle reportedly had a sun roof.  Witnesses also reported that the vehicle had a black dog in the backseat.  Police say the vehicles is most-likely from the late 1990s or early 2000s.

If you have any information, please contact the police or call 911.

Above all, please keep an eye on your children & neighbors, and be safe.
