Augusta has certainly been through many transitions over the past several years. Many old buildings have received a new facelift and more plans are in the works to revitalize Augusta.

One welcome change as far as I'm concerned would be the addition of a newly proposed wine & tapas bar on Canal Street in Augusta. This is the last remaining dormant building left at what use to be Edwards Mills.

Currently, the building, which use to be the powerhouse building is now owned by the City of Augusta however, local developers Tobias Parkhurst and James Bass have proposed buying the building from the city to turn it into a restaurant that focuses on wine and tapas, or small plates.

If the names sound familiar both Parkhurst & Bass are co-founders of Cushnoc Brewing and State Lunch, two highly successful restaurants located on Water street in downtown Augusta.

The current building they are looking to purchase and renovate hasn't seen any use since the late 1980's when a fire ripped through the entire Edwards Mill complex.

According to a report by centralmaine.com, the offer to buy the building from the city of Augusta would be for $1 due to its size and the renovation costs. However, in the proposal submitted to the city, they hope that the long term benefits will outweigh any short term gains.

If the city agrees with the proposal, the new "Sand Hill Wine & Provisions" restaurant could be open for business as soon as 2022
