You know this story isn't about a place in Millinocket, Bangor, Waterville, Augusta or even Lewiston. Nobody rich enough ever visits those places. No, this story is about a place in Kennebunk (or as those in 'the other Maine' call it, Kenny-bunk. That's right tv news channels 6, 8 and 13...I'm talkin' 'bout you!)....

In honor of its 40th anniversary, the White Barn Inn Restaurant is offering a very, very special and pricey Martini. The recipe for the drink is: Hanger One Vodka, St. Germain Elderflower, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, pomegranate and a spoonful of rose water. Oh yeah, it also includes a 4 carat ruby. Can't forget that! Without it, the drink is a mere $18 (plus gratuity). My question here is, if you get the ruby with the drink, what kind of a tip do you leave? In this case, 20% would be a deal breaker.

If you're from out of state and reading this (because no Mainer can lay down $40, 000 for a martini) and you decide to get this anniversary beverage, make it your first drink so you'll be sure to enjoy every sip. Second thought, you probably wouldn't buy it if you were sober. Okay, if you get drunk and lay down the money for this special cocktail, please be careful. At 4 carats, that ruby is nothing more than a sparkling choking hazard.
