Would this please Sheldon Cooper?  Well, Stephen Hawking is warning that the rise of artificial intelligence could lead to the extinction of the human race.

In an interview with the BBC, the physicist says "primitive forms" of artificial intelligence have proved useful, but if the technology is developed to a level that can surpass humans, it could "take off on its own, and redesign itself at an ever increasing rate."

Hawking says human biological evolution would not be able to compete.
