Road Tripping ShadowDog Style: Where to Play with Other Pups
ShadowDog likes a good dog park experience. ALL the new SMELLS!
Doggie heaven checking out all the ‘pee-mail’.
He is almost 11 but he still likes a good time. Even as a duffer, ShadowDog likes to play and he likes the excitement of a lively dog park experience. Over the years we have make road trips to some of the different dog parks in Maine.
If you are going to go dog-parking please respect the rules of the park. Please pick up after you dog. AND if your dog is just not getting along with another dog or is overwhelmed it is best to just leave. (Same goes for the humans.) Go for a walk instead. Just like kids, dogs have good days and bad days.
ShadowDog and I will also go out and hit a few pet stores or farm stores, you know, places he can come in. Maybe a drive-thu for a little treat. ShadowDog KNOWS what ‘magic windows’ are drive-thus are for…FOOD!
When you are out day-tripping with your dog, just remember, it really is all about the time together. Check out our list of dog parks are ShadowDog approved!
-Augusta Dog Park in Mill Park. We shall call this our home park. For years ShadowDog was a two a day visitor. Early morning sunrise on the Kennebec and Tuesday afternoons when the farmers’ market is running are great times to visit.
-Hallowell Dog Park in Vaughan Field has a nice BIG field next to it with a small walking path and a nice human playground. Saturday morning the Hallowell Farmer's Market is happening around the corner.
-Belfast Dog Park near the ball fields were a little hard to find the first time. But very nice and Belfast has Loyal Biscuit and bunch of places to grab a bite and head to the waterfront to share your meal with fur-baby or some treat from your earlier visit to Loyal Biscuit.
-Waterville Dog Park near Rummels Field is also a little hard to find the first time. But it is BIG! Waterville also had a few pet stores to visit together for doggie excitement and maybe a treat.
-Bath Dog Park on Washington Street is another beautiful location on the Kennebec River. Bath also has lots of other fun stuff to walk around together and see.
-Bangor Dog Park on Watchmaker Street. I used to go sledding in that area as a kid. Now they have nice dog park if you and the dog are headed to the Bangor area for a doggie-day out.
-Merrymeeting Dog Park in Brunswick. Again, the first time you visit it can be a bit tricky to find. You walk into it along the walk/bike path along the Androscoggin River. It is big and beautiful and the short walk to get to the park is lovely.
-Robin’s Garden and Dog Park in Lewiston. This is on Strawberry Ave, near the humane society. Big and last time I was there they had many places for a tired human to sit and stay.
-Quarry Run Dog Park in Portland was fun! You walk up to the central area where there is ways a little fun to be had. THEN Portland can be a very dog-friendly place. Lots of shops and locations you two can go for doggie shopping and bonding in Portland!
-Valley Street Dog Park in Portland in right in the city and near the hospital. I remember this one as HUGE. So big I lost sight of ShadowDog at one point! But he had fun. Gees, it is Portland and if you have never been to Planet Dog, do it!
