A Maine bicyclist is fighting for their life after being struck by a vehicle in the early hours of Friday morning, and police are now asking for the public’s help in tracking down the driver who fled the scene.

According to Scarborough Police, the incident happened just before dawn around 4 a.m. near the intersection of Southgate Road and U.S. Route 1. WGME reports that the bicyclist was riding along Route 1 when they were hit by a vehicle that didn’t stop. The driver left the scene without offering any help or calling for assistance.

The news station explained that emergency crews responded quickly and transported the victim to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Officials say the bicyclist sustained life-threatening injuries.

As of now, there’s no word on the make, model, or even color of the vehicle involved, and authorities are hoping someone might have seen or heard something that could help identify the driver.
