If you look there are many houses for sale, you’ll see a "for sale" sign on almost every street in every neighborhood, city and town throughout Maine. Maybe you’re trying to sell your house? If you are, here is a list of dos and don’ts from Trulia when it comes to staging and having curbside appeal.

Here are six things to consider before putting your house up for sale.

1. The smell of your house can hurt your chances of selling your house for full or close to full value. For example, cigarette smoke, or any smoke, including incense or wood smoke can turn potential buyers away.

2. Another thing that can and will turn off a buyer is have dirty clothes lying around. Just a messy house in general is something to avoid.

3. A pet food dish can be hurt your chances of selling your house as those who don’t have pets can be turned off.

4. Believe it or not a hot tub can make a potential buyer walk away as some people may feel there is too much maintenance involved in keeping up a hot tub.

5. Reading material that may be considered objectionable should be kept out of sight. In the source article they have listed law books, but you could probably add adult magaizines, religious and or political material as well.

6. Have your house look as normal as possible when it comes to use of space. If you use your dining room as a living room, move the coach to the actual living room and bring the table and chairs back into the dining room where most people would expect to see them.
