fall

Well, the nights have been pretty chilly since early/mid August and now, although I love the crisp weather, I don't like what it ushers in. I don't like putting away and winterizing the boat and camper. I used the boat four times and didn't spend a single night in the camper. Soon, they'll both covered in a blanket of snow and ice....for almost 9 months! YIKES! That's a long freakin' time! Re

Now that Labor Day is behind us, it's time to put away the summer things and look forward to fall. One of the highlights of living in New England in general, and Maine in particular is the beautiful fall foliage that surrounds us each year...

Monday morning Mac Dickson was saying it felt like fall. Well, I got home from work  to find these (and a few others of their kind) on my front lawn in Augusta. (just ignore the crab grass. That is another issue for another day.)

Look around!  The trees are changing color and it is time to get out and enjoy the weather and the beauty of “Vacationland.” This weekend is the “Great Maine Outdoor Weekend”! Most of the events are free or for a donation. It is going on all around the state of Maine.

No!  I don't hate autumn (which begins this Saturday with the Autumnal Equinox).  It is, in fact, my favorite season.  But, I do love summer and seeing it pass is like saying goodbye to an old friend who is moving away, if only for a short time.

The days are lovely, the nights are getting crisp. It is getting closer and closer to officially being fall. Fall is a beautiful season in Maine. I’m just not that wild about winter. But fall is darn nice. Reports are, with the weather we have had this year, the colors should be great. It is going to be perfect for many nice walks.

The unofficial close to the summer season is behind us.  However, for Vacationland things are NOT over.  Fall in Maine is BIG business.  People coming to Maine for the leaf-peeping and Columbus Day. They've become the biggest moneymakers for motels and restaurants!  People, literally, come to Maine by the bus loads to see the fall colors.  Fall is also the time of year that a lot of the cruise shi

2 days before the 1st day of school. August 29th. Whatever happened to starting school after Labor Day?  When we were young, we got that one last long weekend.  My oldest son's birthday happens to be 8/29 as well. What a birthday gift.
