hernia

It has been a month since my hernia repair and for the most part I’m back to normal. It’s still a little uncomfortable to bend over and pick something up off of the floor and sudden body movements are also a little taxing on the midsection but everything seems to be getting better.

After a second follow visit earlier today with my doctor for the hernia repair, I can now lift up to 20 pounds. I guess this mean I have to start taking out the trash and doing housework again. Oh well.

I survived yesterday. Friday was the big hernia operation. The procedure was supposed to take about 45 minutes and was supposed to be done laparoscopically, but it ended up tasking 5 1/2 hours and was done "openly" due to some unforeseen issues in my body.

I've intentionally taken a while off from talking about my hernia surgery, more or less because of a lack of news. It's just been the waiting game. The only real update since in the pre-op admission testing is I've decided on having it done laparoscopically as apposed to having it performed "open."

Greg Michaels is a little concerned about his upcoming hernia surgery, which I've actually had done. I did the best I could do to ease his fears. I wrote a little song (that sounds a tad like something else!)

Today I had a pre-screening, or as the hospital calls it, pre-admission testing, (P.A.T.), for the inguinal surgery on February 7th. The nurses went through the whole gamut when it came to the questions. I went in to make sure I was okay to have the operation and now, because I score a "3" in a certain run of questions I most likely will be tested for sleep apnea.

Today was my consultation with the surgeon regarding my inguinal hernia operation at St. Mary's Medical Center in Lewiston with Dr. Eric Osborne. He is a cool cat. He went through what to expect before, during and after the repair and shared a few laughs.

I feel like I’m falling apart and I’m only 41. Now, I'm on cholesterol medication? Okay, this part is mostly or at least partly my doing. Over the past couple of years I’ve been getting lab-work done every three months mostly so my primary care professional can find the correct dose of Levothyroxine, a medication to manage thyroid.

Maybe you read on my Facebook page, maybe not, but over the weekend I found a lumpy squishy bulge on me. Sadly, my first thought was one of vanity, thinking I don’t want that to get any bigger. I debated whether to go to the ED/ER, but after some convincing, I did. Thankfully I was in and out of St. Mary’s Medical Center in Lewsiton in under an hour with a diagnosis and a referral.
