Great news for fans of Target - the retailer plans to open a new Central Maine location in the next few months.

According to the Lewiston Sun Journal, Target has confirmed plans to open a new location at 603 Centre Street in Auburn.

The location, formerly a K-Mart store, will give the retail chain about 10,000 square feet of space.  No word on how much of that will be dedicated to floor space and how much will be used for stock storage.

There is also no word on what kiosk businesses could be joining Target.  For example, the Augusta location has a Starbucks and an express Pizza Hut restaurant.

Apparently, at one point, UHaul Moving And Storage had been interested in leasing the vacant space, but that plan seems to have encountered some unknown issues.

Right now, there is no word on when we could see the new Target location open.

Currently, Target has stores in the state in Augusta, Topsham, South Portland, Biddeford and Bangor.
