It was 40 years ago that that Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs in the “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match. Is sexism still prevalent in 2013? Depends who you ask I suppose? I tend to believe it is around not in an overt way but still exists in subtler ways.

I’ve heard many stories of women struggling to get ahead in a traditionally male driven workplace for example a construction site or a garage. I can’t really understand I guess as I am a male because I don’t know the feeling personally.

What I do still see are the traditional gender job trends continuing. Most teachers and daycare workers are female and construction sites and garages still have primarily a male payroll. I’m not sure if that’s just what people are brought to want from culture or society. This still could still be sexism just by for instance by telling a girl she’s pretty while at the same time telling a boy he’s smart?

Where there seems to have been a big change is in business ownership. Woman running and owning their businesses has soared over the years.

Sexism like other discrimination I’m sure still exists but the gap seems to be closing which I’m sure most would say is a good thing. There is certainly room to improve on equal time and equal money but progress is being made.
