It's no surprise that parts of Maine have always been more expensive to live in than others. For example, a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom ranch is going to cost you a whole lot more in South Portland than it will in Millinocket, but what about an entire Maine county (we only have 16!) becoming entirely too expensive for the majority of the Mainer population to afford to live in at all? Well, according to a new study, it's happened.

WGME 13 reports that a new study has found that Maine's York County is no longer affordable for the average working-class Mainer. The study finds many reasons for this including that the average price for a home in Maine's southern-most county has increased by nearly 35% in the last five years alone. With that being said, the average median income is only up by 13.5% in the same timeframe.

In a similar and recent report, WGME also explained that Maine is 9th in the nation for the largest gap between what residents earn compared to the overall cost of living. So as you can see, Mainers weren't in the best spot with the income to outcome ratio, and the surging sellers market, especially in Southern Maine, certainly isn't helping that trend.
