It’s a proud day for actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Basketball Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing, and the late, great Julia Child.

Cambridge, Massachusetts, has been named the most family-friendly city in the United States.

According to the digital platform Opendoor, Boston’s across-the-river neighbor takes the top spot thanks to its vast array of restaurants and outdoor activities, such as a year-round farmer’s market.

The city’s education system also played a key role, as classes have a nine-to-one student-to-teacher ratio, and ranks 7th out of 240 in the state when it comes to classroom diversity.

Ironically, however, Opendoor reports that the most common reason Cambridge residents put their homes on the market is that they are seeking a better school system. So…maybe the problem's your kids!! Just kidding (kind of).

HOW DID CAMBRIDGE WIN?

The main criteria examined by Opendoor was Academic Excellence, The Great Outdoors, and A Small-Town Feel. And this is where I find myself quibbling with Opendoor just a bit.

Academic Excellence? No doubt. In addition to Cambridge’s exceptional school system, you have MIT and Harvard within a few stops of one another on the Red Line.

But…The Great Outdoors? How great is it really when you lay along a river whose dirtiness 30,000 Red Sox fans gleefully sing about after all 11 of the team’s wins?

And Small-Town Feel? Since when does a small town have a subway?

I don’t recall many episodes of “The Andy Griffith Show” where Barney Fife pushes through a mime and a dance troupe to tackle a flasher. But then…I have not seen every episode.

So enjoy your victory, Cambridge. At least one entity in the Greater Boston area has earned the right to a 2022 Duck Boat Parade.
