As the pandemic continues, more and more questions have begun to arise regarding travel in the United States. Recently released from the CDC is the guidance that fully'vaccinated people can safely travel in the US. However, what does that mean for people who are not vaccinated. These are some of the most asked questions Mainers are currently seeking answers to.

According to News Center Maine, airport officials are signaling the possible need for 'vaccine proof' to be allowed to board a commercial flight. With travel at Maine's Portland Jet Port down nearly 60% from two years ago, it's no wonder that people are getting the urge to travel. I mean, I can't wait until it's safe to cruise again! As a matter of fact, this past Sunday was the busiest day for America's airports since March of 2020. But, will you soon be able to fly if you can't provide proof of a COVID vaccination?

According to Zachary Sundquist, Portland International Jetport Assistant Director, “There are a lot of conversations happening within the industry on how do we streamline this so that a customer can enter their [COVID vaccine] information once and have it work for all airlines”. Though there is currently no protocol in place that states a passenger needs to show proof, the speculation isn't so much if that will change, but when.

In a statement to News Center Maine by Aimee Tibeaude of Bangor International, “We’re directing people to the CDC and their travel alerts, and also to the particular state [passengers are] going to to get the information because it does change on a fairly regular basis" .

So as for now, no, Mainers do not need to show proof of a vaccine if they're travelling inside the USA, but because things are expected to change, you should always double and triple check current protocols before travelling... especially by air.
