It's called the Antipode. Dig a hole through the center of the Earth to get to the exact opposite point on the planet, and that's your antipode. The antipode for our beautiful city of Augusta is just off the coast of Australia. Not too surprising, right?  The only reason I would know that is that's where I see Santa first on the SantaTracker each year, so I figured that was the general area. But get THIS... the closest Australian city to the actual antipode for Augusta, Maine, is....drum roll, please...Augusta!

Wait, what? Augusta? What are the odds of THAT?

And it looks like quite a nice place. Get to know the OTHER Augusta...

Augusta (the other one), in Western Australia, is 11,728.639 miles from Portland. It would take you 21 hours to fly there and is 13 hours ahead of us!  It's much easier just to go to OUR Augusta. It looks like a pretty cool place, though.  A lot like a small coastal town in Maine! Augusta's population is a tad over 1000, with lighthouses, beaches, cool biking trails, fishing, and cute shops. Sound familiar? it could be one of about a dozen Maine towns.
