We often find ourselves craving a quick fast food or yummy refreshing drink fix while out and about, which prompts us to head to a drive-thru.

My wife and I have been extremely busy lately, so we've had to stop several times to grab a bite or drink to keep us going throughout our days.

As we roll into the drive-thru, we're hit with a surprising realization: the waiting game is strong. Then it hits us again, that the waiting game is strong every time we come. And it's not just at one spot.

We're not talking about a casual twiddle-your-thumbs-for-a-few-minutes kind of deal. Oh no. It's a solid 10 to 15 minutes parked in line at multiple drive-thrus across Maine.

The culprit? It's not the huge orders ahead of us. It's the complete silence from inside the food spot that's keeping us here.

So we decide to conduct a little experiment.

They say that a simple "Hello" first from our end might let the people inside know we are there. Now, we're not talking about hollering at them. Nope, just a polite "Hey there!"

Lo and behold, it works like a charm every single time.

We hit up the same spot several times in a week. First time, we said nothing, and waited 10 minutes.

Next, we put our theory to the test and greeted them with a "Hello", and bam! Instant response. Then, just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, we tried the silent treatment again for a bit, followed by another "Hello", and again! They're on the intercom in a flash.

No shade thrown at any fast food joint here. But hey, don't hesitate to break the ice with a friendly "Hello." I will bet you a milkshake that it'll make your drive-thru journey a whole lot quicker in Maine.

Let me know if it works for you!
