Frankie MacDonald of Sydney, Nova Scotia, is becoming an internet sensation with his accurate and extraordinarily spirited weather reports!
Frankie is autistic but his autism isn't stopping him from doing what he loves and doing it well. You're going to love this! He's giving you a Maine forecast that you can understand (except for the part where he talks about snow in centimeters....I was never g
I’ve written stories about the Nova Star in the past without opinion but now, after continuous bailouts and lackluster ticket sales it’s time I feel I need to say something on this subject.
We have forward movement regarding news on the ferry from Portland Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Assuming the US government gives the OK, the Nova Star can start selling tickets as early as one week from today! The company that sails the ferry will receive their “Certificate of Performance” within a few days and then they will be good to go as a business.
I’ll tell this story again because of the date. It’s also kind of an interesting story of determination. Back on this day, Jan. 29, in 1995 it was a) The Super Bowl and b) a young 22 year old on a bus in search of a dream. I was on my way to an interview the next day, Monday, with a now defunct pop radio station in Brewer.
I am excited about a new show on History about treasure hunting in my home province of Nova Scotia. I just found out about it over the weekend. It’s entitled, ‘The Curse of Oak Island’. I remember learning about Oak Island in school and the so-called "money pit" but since sort have forgotten about it.
This is one of those things that I think about from time to time, where is “home?” I wrestle with this because I’m often asked where I’m from. I usually say I was born outside Los Angeles, raised in Halifax, Canada and now live in Auburn, Maine.
More and more details are coming out about the new "ferry," 'Nova Star' from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. I use the term "ferry" because that’s what it is being referred to as, but really it’s more like a cruise liner.
First of all, I'm very happy to see ferry service is back between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Now, according to this story in the Bangor Daily News, we could get passenger rail service running up to Montreal within a year!
In the ever continuing discussion of the return to ferry service from Maine to Nova Scotia there is this to report. Quest Navigation, INC., a Maine company says they’re ready to lease a ship built to cross the English Channel for 165 Million dollars.
What is the furthest or craziest thing you’ve done to get a job? For this story we have to go back to the summer of 1994 when I was 22 years old. In June of 1994 I was hired as a part time DJ at a station in Yarmouth, NS. I wasn’t there very long but long enough to hear the stations in Maine over The Bay of Fundy.
