Brewer, Maine Man Charged After I-395 Crash in Bangor Leaves Woman Injured
A Brewer man is facing multiple charges after a crash on I-395 in Bangor that left a young woman injured and sparked a search for a driver who fled the scene.
According to the Maine State Police, the crash happened around 11:49 Saturday morning on April 25 near the Main Street overpass. Witnesses say a black Ford Mustang struck a Volkswagen coupe, sending the smaller car spinning out of control. The coupe went off the roadway into the grass gore area, crossed an entrance ramp from Main Street, rolled over a guardrail and down an embankment into the woods.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 20-year-old woman from Chester, was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.
Police say the Mustang also spun out, hitting a concrete barrier in the median. The driver was then seen getting out and walking away from the crash.
The press release went on to explain that Troopers, along with several local agencies, searched the area but were unable to locate the driver at the time. A photo later submitted to the Maine State Police tip line showed a man leaving the scene on foot. Investigators say the person in the photo matched the description of the Mustang’s registered owner, identified as 48-year-old David Harris of Brewer.
On Sunday morning around 7:40, troopers located Harris at his apartment in Brewer and took him into custody. He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail.
Harris is charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injury, aggravated driving to endanger, failure to make an oral accident report and operating without a license. Authorities say the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
