In short, The Blue Envelope Program gives drivers with special needs a blue envelope to store important documents like their driver’s license and vehicle registration.
Anytime the Blue Envelope program is picked up by another department, they announce it on their Facebook page.
And what makes this program unique is that the envelope includes communication tips for officers to better understand and assist that driver. Therefore, everyone will be able to understand each other a bit better and reduce stress or confusion during traffic stops.
Since the program was introduced, more than 30 Maine police departments have taken part showing strong support.
From Madawaska to Kittery, more departments are joining the program. Some of the participating towns are Biddeford, Newport, Dover-Foxcroft, Farmington, Lisbon, Wells, Lewiston, Milo, and Lincoln, to name a few!
