Cooper’s New Goal – To Walk More
Working in an office (or radio studio) is usually really nice. Warm in the winter, cool in the summer, you never get rained or snowed on, etc.
The down side? Inactivity. In this business, you it around a lot! At your desk, in meetings, in the studio, etc.
Because I don't like sitting, I have one of those stand-up desks. It prevents me from sitting on my butt all day, but it really doesn't help me be more active.
So, using the pedometer in my phone, I've decided to challenge myself to get a higher step-count each day (than the day before).
It's going pretty well so far:
Wednesday Sept 19: 6,717
Thursday Sept 20: 7,019
Friday Sept 21: 8,618
Saturday Sept 22: 9,543
Sunday Sept 23: 12,817 (thanks to our trip to Storyland and a walk from the bar back to the hotel the night before)
What am I doing to up my step count? Other than gin and tonic fueled late night walks and walking around amusement parks, that is. I park farther away from any building than I need to, I frequently walk to lunch, and I pace the hallway at home while watching movies on my tablet.
I'm not the only one who's trying to be more active. A few days ago, I saw a co-worker walking aimlessly through the halls. When I asked him what he was doing, he told me his Fitbit had told him it was time for him to get up and move around for a few minutes.
Good luck to all the office workers of Central Maine trying to stay healthy.
